THE BEGINNING
Our story began in 1989, when David Whiting, a respected figure in the early development of Australia’s environmental and occupational hygiene sectors, saw a growing need for robust, ethical, and science-backed environmental solutions. At a time when environmental regulations were only just beginning to tighten, David founded ESP with a mission: to protect people, property, and the planet by providing expert consulting services in hazardous materials, environmental risk, and hygiene.
From humble beginnings in Melbourne Australia, ESP quickly earned recognition for its technical excellence, integrity, and unwavering commitment to safety. The business was one of the first in the country to gain NATA accreditation for asbestos bulk identification and airborne fibre analysis — a testament to David’s emphasis on quality and trust.
For more than three decades, ESP has partnered with government, industry, education, and construction to deliver real-world outcomes in environmental compliance, hazardous material management, and workplace health. With a growing team of scientists, hygienists, and consultants, ESP played a key role in shaping the standards and practices still in place to date.

Today, ESP enters an exciting new chapter under the stewardship of David’s son, Craig Whiting — now the proud owner and Managing Director. Having grown up immersed in the world of environmental science and consulting, Craig brings both a deep respect for ESP’s legacy and a clear vision for its future.
Craig’s leadership marks a turning point — a modernised, people-first direction that fuses decades of industry expertise with cutting-edge thinking, digital transformation, and a renewed commitment to collaboration. Under his guidance, ESP is not only a provider of services — it is a strategic partner helping businesses create safer, smarter and more sustainable workplaces.
